Literacy Tutoring and Family Support
Learning to read and write is a journey best supported by a team. We achieve greater success when families, schools, and literacy specialists work together.
That’s why LMC’s tutoring program is designed to create meaningful partnerships that support children at every level—bridging the gap between the classroom and the living room.
I am truly amazed at Henry’s progress with your help. He has gone from being very uncomfortable with reading to being excited to read the stories he reads with you. I am so grateful for your expertise and assistance. As a result of his work with you, Henry’s teacher sent me a message that he has made so much progress with reading! This is all thanks to you!

4 Reasons Why Leah’s Approach to Tutoring is Effective and Unique
As a graduate of the Science of Reading Academy, Leah is deeply committed to evidence-based literacy practices. With over 30 years of experience in teaching, leadership and coaching, she’s uniquely positioned to offer a rich, research-based tutoring experience that empowers each child to reach their full literacy potential.
Leah’s tutoring services are rooted in the Active View of Reading (Duke and Cartwright) and the “We Do” model of Writing (Mermelstein)—two research-backed frameworks proven to enhance literacy outcomes.
After a comprehensive initial assessment, Leah designs each session to target key areas such as vocabulary, phonics, fluency, writing, comprehension strategies, phonemic awareness, and spelling. This structured, data-driven approach allows her to adjust the focus as students master new skills, ensuring they receive precisely the support they need.
Leah brings a specialized blend of expertise, including training in Sounds-Write, a speech-to-print method for synthetic phonics, and ThinkSRSD, a method to strengthen self-regulated writing.
Individualized Tutoring Sessions Plus A Collaborative Approach Equals Success
We’re not offering math tutoring but we know this equation is correct! Our one-on-one tutoring sessions are more than just focused literacy instruction; they’re a bridge between school, home, and expert support. Here’s what LMC offers:
School Partnership: When possible we build on the methods or topics your child’s school uses for seamless support.
Family Engagement: We partner with families and caregivers, offering actionable follow-up strategies for home. We’ll also share tips to help you connect with your child’s school so everyone’s on the same page.
Personalized Toolkit: To support learning beyond our sessions, we provide a tailored toolkit, full of resources and concrete ways to reinforce literacy at home.
Leah has provided much needed, evidence-based support for our daughter who was recently diagnosed with dyslexia.
She has gotten to know her learning style and strengths, as well as the areas that require additional support, so that her tutoring sessions are engaging and motivating. She has also answered countless questions and is coordinating with our daughter's instructors at school so that her literacy instruction is fluid.
